Smedley can shoot indoors, on the water or underground but his best work is in the great outdoors where he uses the mercurial and varying conditions of the natural world to create striking images that inspire.

At least 1000 images and hundreds of written pieces published in U.S. and Canadian books, magazines, newspapers and websites have earned James over 60 National and International awards. In addition to teaching photography workshops, James is Travel Editor at Ontario OUT OF DOORS Magazine. He lives in the northern Ontario town of Wawa with his wife Francine and daughters Islay and Lillian.
